We Can Help Wash Away Dry Eyes

Are you struggling with redness, teariness, and irritation in your eyes? Does it feel as if your eyes are always feeling gritty or like something is stuck on their surface? You may be experiencing dry eye syndrome.

Dry eye is a common condition many people around the world experience. However, despite its prevalence, many solutions are available to help manage your symptoms and get your eyes back to feeling hydrated and comfortable.

If you’re struggling with dry eyes, please book an appointment with our team today for help!

Breaking Down Dry Eyes

You can experience dry eyes in 1 of 2 ways: having insufficient tears (evaporative dry eye) or poor tear quality (aqueous tear deficiency). Both of these conditions affect your tear film’s quality, which is responsible for keeping your eyes hydrated.

The tear film is made of 3 distinct layers, each responsible for providing a different aspect of your eye’s comfort. These layers include:

  • The Mucous Layer: Mucous is located in the innermost layer of your tear film. It’s responsible for ensuring the rest of your tear film is spread evenly across the surface of your eye.
  • The Aqueous Layer: The aqueous layer houses the water needed to keep your eyes feeling hydrated. It also helps wash away foreign irritants that could land on your eye surface.
  • The Lipid Layer: The lipid layer, made of oil provided by your meibomian glands, helps seal in the rest of tear film to keep it from evaporating.

Your tear film and eye comfort can be influenced by many factors, including:

Why You Should Consider An OCT Scan At Your Next Eye Exam

One of the latest and most innovative technologies that eye doctors utilize during these comprehensive exams is Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) scanning. OCT scanning employs light waves to capture detailed, cross-sectional images of the retina, which is the light-sensitive tissue lining the back of the eye. This advanced imaging technique provides valuable information about the structure of the retina and helps identify any potential issues, such as retinal diseases or conditions like glaucoma and macular degeneration.
